My Story: From Zero Clients to Running a 6-Figure Business
Introduction
When I started, I had nothing but time, Wi-Fi, and pressure. No clients. No team. No credibility. I was just another guy trying to figure out how to make this “online thing” work. Today, I run a 6-figure digital business that serves clients, sells courses, and funds my life.
This is not a motivational story. It’s a roadmap. If you’re in that space where you feel stuck or invisible, this is how to get clients and grow a business in Kenya—step by step, from scratch.
Step 1: I Learned a High-Income Skill
I started with what I could access: my phone and free online courses. My first serious skill was graphic design—Canva at first, then Photoshop. From there, I learned how to run Meta Ads, build websites, and later teach others.
Each skill I picked was intentional:
- Something I could monetize
- Something with demand in Kenya
- Something I could offer remotely

Step 2: I Started Posting Before I Felt Ready
Most people wait until they “perfect” their skill. I didn’t. I posted my early designs, shared basic tips, and told stories—even before I had results. That consistency helped me build trust and visibility.
What I posted:
- Free value (design tips, marketing lessons)
- My process (behind the scenes of client work)
- Testimonials (even if it was just one happy client)

Step 3: I Charged What I Needed, Not What I Was Told
In the beginning, people told me:
“Charge Ksh 1,000. People won’t pay more.”
But I knew what I was bringing to the table. So I packaged my offers better, built professional proposals, and set my pricing based on the outcome—not just the hours.
I learned how to communicate value. That changed everything.

Step 4: I Used Tools That Saved Me Time
Instead of doing everything manually, I started using tools:
- ChatGPT for ideas and content
- Canva for design
- Trello and Notion for project tracking
- Wati and WhatsApp automation for inquiries
These tools helped me handle more clients, scale faster, and still keep my sanity.

Step 5: I Turned Knowledge Into Products
Once I got consistent results, I started packaging what I knew into:
- Online courses
- Webinars
- Coaching sessions
That shifted my income from active to semi-passive. Now, clients pay for my time—and strangers pay for my knowledge.

Final Thoughts
You don’t need to be famous. You don’t need capital. You don’t need a degree. What you need is skill, consistency, and courage to start with what you have.
If you’re trying to figure it out, just know — I was there too.
Start small. Show up. Keep going.
